Taste of Duluth to Fill Bayfront this Saturday

Taste of Duluth fills Bayfront this weekend to celebrate the regions food and heritage.  On Saturday, July 13th  from 11AM – 7PM, the free event offers music, entertainment, food, vendors, crafters, and other displays that reflect the ethnic origins of the area and Duluth’s rich history.

New this year, watch for strolling musicians throughout the event and a new kids’ area featuring, a bouncy house, inflatable obstacle course, and yard games.

Event producers Tracy Lundeen of Lundeen Productions and Walt Aplin from Twin Ports Entertainment have shifted the event, now in its third year, to bring back the feel of the Duluth International Folk Festival.  “This event is about culture, cuisine, and community. This year’s attendees will see that at the forefront.  We’ve expanded our food offerings and cultivated entertainment that reflects the many ethnic origins in the area.” shared Lundeen.

This year visitors will find over 20 food vendors offering traditional American festival favorites, Eastern European, Asian, German, Italian, Amish, Greek, and more, available in full or sample sizes.  Look for frozen hot chocolate, giant Amish glazed donuts, French toast sandwiches, gyros, street tacos, cupcakes, biscotti, mini donuts, cheese curds, egg rolls, turkey legs, walleye, brats and sauerkraut, and lots more. Craft brews, ciders, and international selections will also be available.

The event kicks off with the national anthem sung by Rickey Lee Biggs, followed by performances and presentations on the Centricity Stage. This year’s acts include Traditional Ojibwe Dancers lead by Pat St. Germaine, The Singing Slovenes, McInnis’ Kitchen, and the Fish Heads.  There will be a special performance by Sydney Hanson during the Bluebird Foundations presentation of two $500 grants to area high school kids in the performing arts.

Also at Bayfront, attendees will find over 100 vendors including local businesses, crafters, and organizations.  “This year’s mix of vendors provide an fun look at our community – from local businesses like Art in the Alley and Big Frog Custom T-shirts to more than 40 crafters offering unique handmade items like jewelry made from agates, beads, gems and crystals, yard art created from recycled bowling pins, essential oils, signs and décor made from repurposed items, candles, soap, and more,” said Aplin.

Taste of Duluth is a free event, open to the public.  Wear your walking shoes and head to Bayfront this weekend to experience to celebrate the region at one of Duluth’s most beautiful outdoor venues on the shore of Lake Superior.
